Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos never fail to keep audiences entertained on Live with Kelly and Mark — and their latest on-air banter took a playful turn when Ripa jokingly diagnosed Consuelos with “hurry sickness.”
During Monday’s episode, Ripa explained the concept to viewers, admitting that working in live television often fuels a sense of urgency. However, she claimed Consuelos’ penchant for being excessively early isn’t just a job requirement — it’s “who he is.”
“If you’re always rushing, you might have what’s called ‘hurry sickness,’” Ripa explained. “It’s described as an extreme sense of time urgency. Not officially a medical condition yet, but give it time — the pharmaceutical industry will probably find a drug for it soon.”
Her teasing didn’t stop there. Ripa humorously added that the condition can negatively impact health — and “irritates your wife.”
Consuelos, not missing a beat, chimed in with his own quip. “You know who wrote that? Someone who doesn’t care about being on time. If you’re on time, you’re already 10 minutes late.”
Ripa disagreed, claiming that when it comes to her husband, “10 minutes early isn’t enough — it’s more like 45 minutes to an hour.”
Consuelos playfully fired back, “Is there such a thing as exaggeration sickness?”
The Ripa-Consuelos Dynamic Keeps Viewers Laughing
Executive Producer Michael Gelman joined the fun, joking that he’d “find an article” to back up Ripa’s claims. But Ripa had her own backup plan, calling out Albert Bianchini, a long-time colleague and friend.
Recalling a trip to Italy, Ripa said Bianchini vowed never to travel with Consuelos again after an extreme airport arrival. “Albert told me, ‘Mark got us to the airport six and a half hours early. Not exaggerating.’”
Consuelos laughed but defended himself, denying the full six-and-a-half-hour window. “That’s ridiculous. I would never do that,” he said. “Five and a half hours, maybe.”
