Martin Short Inducted Into SNL’s Exclusive Five-Timers Club with Star-Studded Surprise

Saturday Night Live (SNL) pulled out all the stops to welcome comedy legend Martin Short into the prestigious “Five-Timers Club,” a rare honor reserved for those who have hosted the iconic sketch show five times. Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy, and more joined the celebration, making for an unforgettable night of comedy and camaraderie.

A Legendary Welcome
Jimmy Fallon took the lead in presenting Short with the coveted Five-Timers Club jacket. In classic Fallon style, he couldn’t resist a playful jab. “I just want to say I am so happy to be here for this moment, so I would like to present to you the official Five-Timer’s Club jacket in exactly your size — a women’s small.” Short, ever the sport, wrestled with the jacket to the delight of the audience.

With a twinkle in his eye, Short addressed the crowd, “From the bottom of my heart, I just want to say, I love most of you so much.”

Star-Studded Cameos
The celebration was packed with celebrity appearances. Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, John Mulaney, and Alec Baldwin all graced the stage, each bringing their unique flair. Baldwin’s jacket humorously displayed a bold “17,” a nod to his record number of SNL hosting gigs.

Tom Hanks, who initiated the Five-Timers Club tradition in December 1990, kicked off the festivities. “I created the SNL Five Timers Club as an ingeniously lazy way to avoid writing a monologue. It has grown into one of the most exclusive clubs in our industry,” Hanks quipped.

Playful Roasting and Banter
The evening was filled with good-natured roasting. Short took aim at his Only Murders in the Building co-star Steve Martin when Hanks mentioned the club’s signature drink, the “Marty-tini.” Hanks teased, “It’s often paired with our Steve Martini, but tonight, we are serving it solo.”

Without missing a beat, Short fired back, “And I bet it’s even better on its own.”

Fey also joined in the ribbing, sparring with Short. “You are one of the rarest things in Hollywood — a writer who’s attractive enough to be on camera,” Short quipped. Fey retorted, “And you are one of the least rare things in Hollywood — a loud man.”

Surprise Confessions
The skit took a turn into comedic confessions. Wiig humorously revealed, “Martin and I took a hot yoga class together, where we made love and got kicked out… and then we both voted for Trump.” Short’s eyes widened as he quickly shot back, “Don’t tell them that.”

Rudd, not to be outdone, chimed in, “Ant-Man’s powers aren’t good.”

Fey added to the fun, “It’s me that’s flying those drones. All of them.”

Hanks confessed, “I never had Covid,” while Johansson declared, “I have Covid right now.”

Baldwin wrapped up the lighthearted admissions, deadpanning, “I have way too many children.”

A Night to Remember
The induction of Martin Short into the Five-Timers Club was not just a celebration of his comedic legacy but also a testament to Saturday Night Live‘s enduring influence and ability to bring together some of the biggest names in entertainment. Short’s induction continues the show’s tradition of honoring comedic excellence with warmth, humor, and just the right amount of mischief.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes moments from SNL‘s 50th season, where legends are made and comedy reigns supreme.
