Tim Allen is gearing up to reprise his iconic role as Buzz Lightyear in the much-anticipated ‘Toy Story 5.’ The beloved actor recently opened up about his experience returning to the franchise and shared insights into the film’s progress.
In a recent interview with Collider, Allen expressed his excitement about the project, revealing he had already completed the initial recording sessions. “I just wrapped up the first five-hour session for Buzz about a week ago,” Allen shared enthusiastically.
At 71, Allen admitted that stepping back into the shoes of Buzz Lightyear felt a little surreal. “It’s a strange but incredible feeling to return to the character. The story is exceptionally well-crafted,” he explained.
Reflecting on the longevity of the franchise, Allen addressed the curiosity around making a fifth installment. “Do we really need five of these movies? Honestly, I don’t think it’s about the money,” he remarked. “Sure, success matters, but this film was made because of the brilliant script. If the story wasn’t compelling, they wouldn’t have moved forward with it. Tom [Hanks] and I wouldn’t have been asked back otherwise.”
Allen further delved into the emotional aspect of voicing Buzz Lightyear, confessing that it wasn’t an easy transition. “Getting into character took some effort. After about two hours, I finally felt like Buzz again. I feel incredibly fortunate to voice this character.”
As for the timeline, Allen hinted that the film is still in development but progressing smoothly. “We’re probably about a year away from completion. I’ve made it to the third act so far, and there’s still more work ahead. After we finish, I’ll revisit the character about five more times to fine-tune everything. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic story,” Allen concluded.
